HEARTBREAK Hotel

At what cost are we DE VALUING hospitality at the HEART, when it comes to how we take care of hotel workers?

When you become a true wanderer you truly notice who the soul and spirit are, of the places we venture too and within. No matter where I have traveled I frequent a good to great hotel, invoked with the most amazing memories and most importantly bonds with amazing people. The ones that open doors, clean counters, hold elevators open for me, and make an amazing cocktail at the bar or restaurant after a long flight. The ones who make my room feel fresh and cool, keep me with clean sheets and towels and a bathroom to soak or slather my aromatic soaps on my skin. The reason my stay for however short or long, was worth it’s weight and usually so wonderful!

So how much more of asserting your value to claim your freedom, than to take that away from the masses on the birth of America? Well that’s exactly what hotel workers did when they decided they had enough and decided to protest the July 4th weekend, in L.A.. Calling for higher wages, healthcare, better treatment and most of all respect. If the average traveler is charged the exuberant prices for these rooms, that are often no bigger than 300 to 500 sq feet. There is no reason a lot of that money shouldn’t go to the people who literally make and run the hotels across the cities, states and the entire world. Instead of making the ones who simply show face, or make the most inexpensive amenities part of your costs to stay richer. Too often the people that give the least hospitality and really aid in no way to your stay, are given all the credit LITERALLY!

Yet you’ve got workers that travel so far in their own cities, just to fulfill others dreams that they themselves can’t even see nor experience. And you can’t pay, house and lift them higher for the sake of your business and industry? Then the cost of your GREED in the end, will be much higher than that of a $5 per person raise.

We must put protections, provisions and profits into protecting this tourism/hospitality industry we love. So the next time you stay in a hotel remember all the little things that make the biggest difference, and acknowledge them!
